Introduction to Jewellery Making

Duration: 2 days, 9:30 am – 5:00pm

The Lecturer:

Teresa Speer, BA (Hons) Jewellery, has been in the jewellery trade for over a quarter of a century and has been teaching jewellery making for over 18 years.

Teresa is also a qualified lecturer who has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally and has lectured at Loughborough University School of Art and Design and Birmingham City University.

Techniques you will use / Skills you will learn

You will develop first-hand experience in working with a wide assortment of crucial jewellery making equipment. This will grant you proficiency in a variety of essential jewellery making techniques, such as:

  • Working with Sterling Silver

  • Working with Gilding Metal

  • Stone setting

  • Silver soldering

  • Shaping

  • Piercing (sawing)

  • Texturing

  • Filing

  • Annealing (softening metal)

  • Finishing (Polishing)


Jewellery you will create

Under Teresa’s guidance you will create from scratch, using base materials:

  • A beautiful Gilding Metal floral pendant, soldered, shaped and textured

  • A Sterling Silver stone set ring, set with a stone of your choice
